Since a few days, the new dimension of the Federal State-wide GeoPortal – the Saxony Atlas – is online available for the public.
A new era is beginning for the geo-data market in the Free State of Saxony. Since a few days, maps of Saxon Authorities are online available on the Saxony-wide and administration-comprehensive GeoPortal "Saxony Atlas". With this portal the kick-off for a wide use of location-orientated data is given. The portal offers from now on a simple access to a variety of thematic and expert maps. Administration, economy, and interested citizens have now a direct access to all location attributes and geo-data that are available within authorities. Consequently, users get informed faster and above all more specifically. With this release, a big step forward is taken in the progress of converting administration into a service provider for citizens and companies.
The implementation of the GeoPortal took almost a year. Significant contributions to the project were made by the Free State of Saxony and the Saxon Local Authorities. The IT specialist PRO DV Software AG, located in Dortmund, assumed the technical implementation and realisation in close collaboration with its Swiss subsidiary, GeoTask AG.
From now on, nothing is getting in the way of spontaneous excursions. The Internet portal "Saxony Atlas" offers round the clock maps of the region, where bicycle routes, hiking trails and bridle paths are illustrated. This click in the Internet is absolutely worth it. Those who want to save time and money, have from now on the possibility to examine from home binding land-use plans, ortho photos, topographic maps, or regions with potential floods danger quickly and comfortably.
The characteristic of this portal is that the maps allow options of comprehensive navigation and handling, and an optional combination of all data. Different maps for instance, can be put upon others and visualised in parallel. Each map is storable and printable in different scales. At the same time, also distances and areas can be measured. Furthermore, the portal integrates the geo-basis data from the State Survey Office, topographic maps in different scale levels and detail grades, and so-called digital ortho photos. For economy representatives, comprehensive support is given e.g. regarding questions concerning the selection of a location. Administration may use the data, among other possibilities, as a basis for planning and decision responsibilities.
